About Us

The Indigenous Studies theme of the Inter-disciplinary Graduate Program provides an opportunity for students to bring together the insights and approaches to research developed by Indigenous peoples and promoted through Indigenous Studies, with knowledge and perspectives from any of the other disciplines represented at UBCO.

The primary interest of the theme is to promote active and engaged scholarship in any area identified by Indigenous Communities as pertinent to their well-being. This entails both an active commitment to Indigenous methodologies and approaches to knowledge, and constructive engagement with knowledge generated within the social sciences, health sciences, earth and environmental sciences, creative arts, law, and education. The Theme committee overseeing the program reflects this fundamentally interdisciplinary approach, and includes members from across faculties at UBC Okanagan.
